Go for the Golden Bell
You have shown that you can manage a hotel. This news has come to the attention of the EMEA Area President of a renowned international hotel chain. They are looking for a team that can take over the management of a five-star hotel in a major capital city. The task is ambitious, challenging and very rewarding. You are invited to pitch your team. Now!
Situation
So far, your efforts have been aimed at promoting, managing and developing your hotel. Now, you are now challenged to pitch and give a transparent and convincing picture of the power of your team. What successes can your team claim? You have probably also made some mistakes along the way; as success usually comes at a price. You might have also learned new insights during the process. You got to know your team members, showing their qualities maybe at times you least expected it. You also got to know yourself a bit better. All in all, your team has gained experience thanks to all efforts, interactions, decisions and creations, while running the hotel. Make sure that your pitch does paint a clear picture of these accomplishments, but don’t hesitate to also show where you have learned from failure and how you have faced difficulties along the road.
Goal
Create a sales pitch presentation of your team. Create a video of maximum 5 minutes that touches upon all qualities that you have been able to prove and develop. Also support your pitch with a PowerPoint of maximum 7 slides, that sheds a light on each team member. Make sure that both video and PowerPoint are well understood even by someone who has never met your team before.
When all pitches are handed in (be in time for the deadline!), the five most convincing teams will be nominated for a final round; the Golden Bell event. Your video will be shown in a large plenary online meeting. The audience will consist of your fellow students, the coaches and staff members, and a jury of hospitality professionals. After the video, the jury will enter into a ten-minute dialogue with your team, to find answers to any questions they might still have. After these five pitches, the jury will grant the Golden Bell Award 2020 to the winning team. And of course, also the complete audience will be asked to vote for their favourite. The most favourite team will win the Audience Award.
Tasks and Final deliverable
Prepare a video and a PowerPoint by making a good, reflective analysis of your team performance. It should be attractive, original, genuine and convincing. Next to that; also prepare yourselves for a dynamic dialogue with the jury, in case you are one of the nominated teams for the Golden Bell. And, remain mindful of IP rights on whatever you create. Assessed elements
- Does the pitch offer a good insight in the qualities of each individual?
- Does the pitch offer a good insight into the power of the team?
- The pitch should be based on convincing reflective reasoning.
- Is there a creative spark, that draws attention?
- Professional execution; does everything work, and communicate the message well?
Handing in
