The Corona Era
In your entrepreneurship assignment 1.0, you have to take many decisions on the strategy of your hotel. Now, in this assignment 2.0, you are going to formulate a response to the outbreak of the Covid19 virus (from here: “Corona”), that has turned the world into a different place. What special measures does the hospitality world take? How will your hotel accommodate to the new situation?
Situation
Your hotel offers a wide array of hospitality services, many of which involve people being in close proximity to one another. Due to corona, people have to keep a 1.5 meter distance. This poses some managerial questions:
- How would you welcome people in general, as well as customers from other countries, other cultures?
- What type of security and safety can you offer?
- How would you communicate this?
- How does it affect your hospitality product?
- (How) can you turn this into a USP?
Goal
Define the Corona policy for your hotel, in line with your strategy and service level. Describe the consequences for your operations and communication.
Task, deliverable
Check internet and other sources for best practices, examples from the industry and maybe also outside the hospitality field. Based on your investigation, design a policy that best suits your hotel and create an instructional memo for all employees in the hotel, explaining the consequences of the policy.
- Overview of inspirational best practices outside your hotel
- A policy document with the main implications for your hotel
- An instruction memo, to prepare all employees.
Assessed elements
- How well are ethics and international cultural differences taken into consideration?
- How well does the policy comply with the 1.5 meter social-distancing requirement?
- How well does the policy support the services?
- How well is the policy understood and executed by employees?
- To which degree does the policy facilitate, or perhaps even leverage your business model?
