As you probably understand, many aspects of our social life, as well as the economy are heavily affected by the Corona crisis: So is the Emerald Forest Hotel. Your coaches will inform you how we handle the situation. Take care!

Welcome to the Emerald Forest Hotel!
This is the homepage of your simulation in Breda HFM, called 32NL, June 2020. English is meant as a way of communication so the texts might not always be totally correct. All of the content is in English as this is an international hotel.
What is the Game?
You all take over the Emerald Forest Hotel as a management team. You have to run the hotel, trying to do better than has been done in the past. Last year's decisions and results, the history, are available as a point of reference. You all have the same hotels, with the same data as starting point. The hotels are located in your own country, so the Netherlands, in a number of (fictitious) cities. Each city consists of approx. ten hotels. Your direct, or main competitors are the other hotels in your city.
CEO Jill Jandal, and the owner Christina Bergman, ask you to manage the Emerald Forest Hotel. Coaches will help you doing so; from a distance, Jill and Christina will follow the developments as well.
What are the goals?
The task you have when taking over the hotel, is to do better than before. The existing and realistic dates of Emerald Forest Hotel offer the possibility to apply management skills and knowledge. Learning goals are:
- Working with a large amount of data and finding the right information as a team, in all of this just-in-time
- Working on the competence creativity and communication by doing assignments
- Running your own management team in a pleasant and businesslike way
- Acting like entrepreneur in real-life situations
- Behaving like entrepreneurs: handling uncertainty, finding solutions, eccepting failures
You will do by managing the hotel in the following ways:
- Making eight assignments during a year of preparations and three consecutive years
- Explaining why and how you do things
- Live-actions in the game
- Handling situation, make choices and be creative
- Taking into account the competitions, real-life and other things happening during the Game.
Communication
This platform is where you can find documentation on many elements linked to your hotel.
We will use the Facebook group 32NL as a platform to profile your hotel: so join as soon as possible! We ask one members of each group to join the WhatsApp group, supporting the total of the game.
There is modules in the study program related to the game, as will be explained in your study manual.
Most important contact point will be your coach. Always remember that uncertainty comes along with managing: there is an overkill on information and things to do, managing a hotel is among other things, handling this.

You are working with approx. 4 persons in a management team. Each city will be guided by its own coach, as much as possible.

Module The Game
Module The Game consists of two parts:
-1- The Game.
All assignments related to run your hotel you will find on this platform. This part accounts for xx% of your mark for module The Game. Your mark will be the average of the creativity mark and entrepreneurship mark in each of the four rounds in the game.
-2- Other assignment based on your hotel.

This part, in the end, accounts for xx% of your mark for Module The Game.
Obviously: the better you run this hotel simulation, the more you get a grip on everything which will help very much in bringing the game and the assignments to a good end.
Let's look at just the Game part now.
Your marks
Each round, your work will be evaluated by your coaches: on the element of entrepreneurship as well as creativity. This brings eight evaluations which will be published after the total of the module and on an average bring your final mark for the game part of module The Game. During the game, you will get coach comments, though. Marks are individual, but very likely in many cases will be the same for all team members. Your coaches' evaluation, has a 60-70% direct influence on your occupancy rate.
