There is a lot of information on this platform: don't get "killed by information": so do you do first? Do the tasks underneath on this page step by step. You can click on any blue link for more information on any page. Don't start doing so immediately, you might get lost ;-). Good luck!

The reception of Emerald Forest Hotel

Participating in the game means doing the next tasks:

• tasks to be done before the game week starts (underneath)
• tasks to be done during the game week, starting the 6th of October to be found in 08LV Tasks and decisions, day by day.
  
  

Your tasks before the game week starts, so before 6th of October

You will receive information from your coaches on:
> your teamnumber, the city your team is operating in and your teammembers
> your team's username and password for this platform with which you can edit your teampage
> the secret link to your teamsheet where you make your decisions and can see your results. This section is private to each team.
With this information you can already start meeting with your team, dividing the tasks, checking out this platform etc. Make sure you have your team well organised and the tasks well divided.

• Task 1: Meet with your teammembers
  

Plan meetings with your team in the weeks before the game week, to make preparations and plans for who is going to do what before this game week and during week 41. In this game week (week 41) all team members must be available all of the time. It is going to be busy but a very interesting week! Beware that the game week is from Monday the 06th October until the end of the day on Friday the 10th of October. So before the game week have your team organized.

• Task 2: Study E-manual
  

Study the E-manual: here you will find what you need to read before taking any action. Look around a bit in this platform, so that you get a grip on what to find here and how it works. After this, you can use the Sandbox to practice. If you want more visualization, you can check the video help first section to get an impression on how to use the platform, especially the page the Guided tour through the platform.

Go to the top right-hand side of this page screen at "My Preferences" scroll a bit down until you see E-mail, E-mail options. Change this e-mail address in a real e-mail address of one of your teammembers use the save button at the bottom. This e-mail might comes handy in some cases. Do not change the password or anything else in this section

All teammembers can login using the same username: multiple users at the same time with the same login name is no problem. To just read the content of this platform you don't need to login at all, by the way (only if you want to edit). There is much information on how to do things in Help:contents or on the special pages in Category:Hotel info. You can search with the buttons top-righthand corner: with GO for a special page on the searched for item, or with button Search which will show all pages where this search item is mentioned. No answer found? Ask your coach or use the Shoutbox which is monitored by the coaches.
So before the gameweek all must have studied the E-manual.

• Task 3: First actions
  

After reading, discuss your strategic plans with regard to the hotel and come to a conclusion. First have a look at the example page: page 08LV Example teampage. Then start filling out your own teampage: this has to be ready entirely on Monday the 6th at 16.00. Have a look at your private teamsheet using your private link and fill out your chosen hotelname there!
So before the gameweek teampage ready and name filled out in your teamsheet.

• Task 4: Prepare Trade Fair
  

In the game week, your hotel will be presenting itself at a Trade Fair on Thursday. So, before this week think this over and prepare for the Trade Fair: check this page for more information. This is an important meeting, one which will influence your success in the game. This offers you the opportunity to present your (new ideas on the) hotel. Be creative, and have a look at the pictures of Trade Fairs from competitions. All team members must participate in the Trade Fair.
To make your appearance at the Trade Fair as useful as possible, your preparations on your teampage must be ready as far as possible (new logo, slogan, introduction of new management). So start thinking about this before the gameweek when things get hectic.

All the sessions during the game week are very useful and compulsory (and often fun, of course).

• Task 5: Monday 10th February (prologue, year 00) - Preparations and strategy
  

> 09.00 - 11.00 Game warmers and registration. Study the platform, do the tasks 1 to 4, read the online manual etc.
> 11.00 Official opening and Kick-off
> 12.30 Lunch break. Meet with your team, work on team page (top of page link to your city); be sure it is ready by the end of the day. Be sure to bring down the size of pictures or photo's used to 150kb. Use for instance the tool shrinking pictures.
> 13.30 “Decision Making and Team Building” (Philip Cullen).
> 14.30 “PR Communication and Trade Fair / Event Organization” (Eliis Salm)
> 15.30 - 16.30 Break / Check your teamsheet and fill out in your teamsheet your teamname and experiment with filling in decisions. Work on your teampage. And work on your assignment linked to the prologue, year 00. > 16.30 – 17.30 Q & A Session (Kai Holschuh, Desmond Wee, Philip Cullen, Eliis Salm & René Arvola).
> 17.30 - 19.00 Prepare the Trade Fair: be sure to have all things ready and set for tomorrow! Work on the assignment (a big one!) and look ahead to the rest of the tasks.
> 19.00 Deadline for teampage on the platform and for your hotels name in your teamsheet. You can upgrade the teampage later-on, but it should be ready now.

• Task 6: Tuesday 11th February (year 01) - Day of Creativity
  

On this first day your team will demonstrate its creativity and thereby present the new hotel in a more promising strategic direction, as well as distinguishing your hotel from your competitors.

> 10.00 Deadline for handing the assignment for year 00.
> 10.00 - 11.00 AGM: results year 00, instruction on year 01.
> 11.00 - 11.45 Dialogue “Managing Your Hotel: Communication and Media Strategies” / “Managing Your Project” (Rene Arvola and Martin Zierold).
> 11.45 - 12.30 Questions and coaching.
> 12.30 - 15.00 Preparations for Trade Fair, work on decisions.
> 15.00 Deadline for decisions and explanations in explanations form for year 01 both to be done in the teamsheet. Read the page secret link teamsheet and fill your decisions out. You will absolutely have to read the page decisions as to get a grip on things.
> 15.00 - 16.00 Participation in Trade Fair and presenting your new hotel and working on your assignment on the Trade Fair. Participation of all team members mandatory.
> 16.00 - 18.00 work on the assignment and look ahead to the rest of the tasks.

• Task 7: Wednesday 12th February (year 02) - Day of Calculations
  

Analyze the results, the operational costs made and the key indicators for your hotel. On this day, focus on the calculations a manager often has to make. "Financial language" is key in the hotel sector. Further, linking these to benchmarks is crucial to profitability. After receiving your first results (on year 01) you need to study them, in order to decide on how to react in the next year.

> 12.30 - 16.00 Analysis of the results, make new decisions etc: no specific assignment in this year.
> 16.00 Deadline for the decisions and explanations in explanations form for year 02 both to be done in your teamsheet. You will absolutely have to read the page decisions as to get a grip on things.
> 16.00 – 17.00 Input session “Selling Techniques in a Nutshell” (Isabelle Van Tomme).

• Task 8: Thursday 13th February (year 03) - Day of Managing the Company
  

The managing of a hotel relies heavily on the ability to communicate with customers as well as your staff, especially when "exceptional" situations arise. Expect a negative event (crisis) to happen this year. The hotel management will need to deal directly, actively and creatively with the event, as well as to take timely decisions to resolve it.

> 10.00 - 11.00 AGM: results year 02, instruction on year 03.
> 11.00 – 11.45 Dialogue “Management Under Pressure” (Dirk Wagner and Phil Cullen).
> 11.45 – 12.30 Questions and coaching.
> 12.30 - 16.00 Resolve management issues; pricing decisions, adjust team page. Work on your assignment make new decisions!
> 16.00 Deadline for decisions and explanations in explanations form for year 03 both to be done in your teamsheet. You will absolutely have to read the page decisions as to get a grip on things.
> 16.00 - 18.30 Prepare for the 3 Minutes of Fame, work on the assignment and look ahead to the rest of the tasks. Tomorrow is going to be a really packed day!

• Task 9: Friday 14th February (year 04) - Day of Promotion
  

On this day your team will show how to sell its services and make hotel promotions attractive through the use of internet and social media. The competitions finish today. Final results will be determined and the teams with the most profit and that were the most creative will be awarded.

> 09.00 Deadline for handing the assignment for year 03.
> 09.00 - 10.00 AGM: results year 03, instruction on year 04.
> 10.00 - 11.00 Team preparation of 3 minutes of fame; pricing decisions, adjust team page etc.; coaches available for feedback and questions.
> 11.00 Deadline for decisions and explanations in explanations form for year 04 both to be done in the secure section. You will absolutely have to read the page decisions as to get a grip on things.
> 11.00 - 12.00 Presentations for 3 minutes of fame; all teammembers are in. Take notes or your assignment as well.
> 12.00 - 12.30 Last details on your assignment (year 04), to be handed in at 13.30.
> 14.30 - 15.30 Game Final: Award Ceremony.
> 15.30 After the game final we kindly ask you to evaluate the game by filling out the handed out questionnaire; it helps us to further improve the game!
> 18.00 Closing dinner for all students and coaches.

• Task 10: After the game final: Assignment and Questionnaire
  

The assignment is a big part of this game and important for your final mark: it is worth 50% of your total mark. You will have to finish the last part of this document in, printed out. Deadline Friday 13.30
