Social media hype?
The use of social media is somewhat hyped, but important as well. The internet as a whole offers much more possibilities, of course. Especially working with affiliates, the modern intermediaries, is a possibility.
We would suggest looking at the following online opportunities:
- A website for your company is needed for sure. Also check the Website page.
- Affiliates, review sites and other sites which might be of importance to your hotel.
- Social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube are important.
- There should be a clear connection between social media use and your target group. Find evidence for that.
There is a Demo Team File you can check, with a filled out Team File.
Social media accounts of the 'old' Emerald Forest Hotel
Always keep in mind that all social media use should be in line with your strategy and goals. And: social media use is not free: staff will use working hours to post, monitor and react! Check Social media EmeraldForestHotel the list of social media Emerald Forest Hotel is currently using.
Your hotels' social media
Your hotel will need a website, Facebook page, and a second social media channel account. Each competition has its own Facebook group: we ask you to join this group (closed group, not interfering with your private timeline). Officially, your hotel's Facebook page has to be a (company) page, not a private one. Unfortunately, companies can not join groups, so be creative in solving this. But be sure that you have a plan with your social media:
- what are the goals? Not just pushing content.
- who are you aiming at?
- how will you measure 'success'?
- probably your goal is not to just have likes or followers but to have clients, right? So how is this connection?
- all media have rules & regulations of their own. So a Like & Win campaign: is this allowed by Facebook?
A nice blog on this or Facebook policies. Keep in mind, these rules are rapidly changing all the time.
Legislation GDPR - AVG
As you have probably noticed, from May 2018 on there is new legislation on privacy, especially online: the General Data Protection Rule (GDPR) legislation. Companies have to comply with this. A practical implication will be that posts by companies are under more intense scrutiny. The management of companies will be asked more 'questions'. Check Hospitality and GDPR and on this platform.
