What are stakeholders?

Stakeholders are all groups which have some kind of interest in your company. The most famous one, of course, will be your target groups. Most companies have a logical distinction between internal and external stakeholders. The basic element is that stakeholders can affect or be affected by the organisation's actions, objectives and policies. Have a look at Wikipedia on this.
But stakeholders can be considered in a broad sense as all kinds of different groups with all kinds of different stakes, like:

  • your staff
  • the family and relatives of your staff
  • the owners of the hotel or the shareholders
  • your suppliers, your bank
  • the city, local politics
  • your neighbours
  • customers, even prospects-suspects maybe
  • maybe even your competitors, trade associations etc.

There is a difference between internal- and external stakeholders.
